Goethes Faust

– ALLERDINGS MIT ANDEREM TEXT UND AUCH ANDERER MELODIE
“You ask me what ideas I tried to embody in my Faust. As if I knew or were able to express this myself!” Barbara Bürk and Clemens Sienknecht will attempt to do what Goethe could not or would not: They compress the play’s contents, humorously deconstruct and lovingly musicalize it. Orfeo ed Euridice

The first joint production of the ballet company and the opera company will take on one of the great classics of opera and ballet history: Christoph Willibald Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. The new production from Hanover also intends to refine our view of human rituals and processions as well as of Orpheus’ impossible longing to rescue his beloved Eurydice from the realm of the dead. Together with Italian choreographer Diego Tortelli, the Belgian director Lisaboa Houbrecht, who is known for multifaceted and vibrant musical theatre works in her home country, sets out to find light in the dark.

Hokus & Pokus

Together with his witch-sister Pokus, the young wizard Hokus invents the most famous magical incantation: “Hokus Pokus Fidibus!” Anyone who ever had anything to do with magic cannot help but come across these siblings. But the incantation only works when it is spoken by both of them together. When Hokus starts to feel jealous of the talented Pokus, disaster soon ensues … Between historical events and fairy-tale fiction, the Belgian choreographer Jeroen Verbruggen tells stories of people who used to be called “witches” in former times. Featuring his characteristic signature of dark grotesque, captivating opulence and magical effects, this full-length ballet is not least a parable on being different in today’s society.
