Robert Robinson wurde auf der Isle of Wight in England geboren. Er studierte an der Elmhurst School of Dance und absolvierte seine Ausbildung an der John Cranko School in Deutschland. Nach seinem Abschluss wechselte er 2011 zum Stuttgarter Ballett und wurde drei Jahre später zum Solisten befördert.
Robinson hat mit vielen renommierten Choreografen wie Marco Goecke, Hans van Manen, William Forsythe und anderen zusammengearbeitet. Er gastierte in Ländern wie Japan, Korea, China und Russland. Im Jahr 2014 wurde er vom Tanz Magazin zum „vielversprechendsten Künstler“ ernannt.
Im Jahr 2014 gründete er BalletWorks, unter dessen Namen er Ballettgalas zugunsten wohltätiger Zwecke veranstaltet. Seit 2017 ist er in nationalen und internationalen Tanzprojekten freischaffend tätig. Seit der Spielzeit 2019/20 ist er als Tänzer am Staatsballett Hannover engagiert.
