Access to the Opera House

An elevator provides wheelchair users with barrier-free access to the opera house. The long hallway can be reached in this way. There is access to the barrier-free box in the stalls and to the wheelchair-accessible toilet.

Two boxes in row 19 are available for wheelchair users. Box 1 has a load capacity of up to 600 kg. It can accommodate either one person with a large electric wheelchair and their companion or two wheelchairs without electric motors and their companion. Loge 2 has a load capacity of up to 300 kg. It can accommodate one person with a wheelchair without an electric motor and their companion.

Please note that the tiers can only be reached via steps. Unfortunately, there is no elevator available to provide barrier-free access to the tiers.

Access to Ballhof

Ballhof Eins has level access; Ballhof Zwei is furnished with a lift that is accessible via a separate entrance to the left of the main entrance. However, this entrance does not have automatic doors. Wheelchair-accessible seating and a barrier-free lavatory are available.

Introductions

Our introductions on productions, ballets and concerts provide you with interesting background knowledge about the work and the specific production, either on our website or immediately before the performance. Visitors with limited mobility, who are unable to access Marschnersaal, can follow the introductions via a monitor on the ground floor.

We offer haptic introductions and tours of the stage for blind and visually impaired visitors on certain dates. Please find the dates in our calendar and in the monthly programme brochure.

Catering

The catering services in Lange Diele have barrier-free access for wheelchair users. Unfortunately, catering services at Ballhof can currently not be accessed without steps.

Surtitles

We surtitle all foreign-language operas and also many German operas in the opera house with German surtitles. Our box office staff will provide you with information about the surtitles when you buy your tickets, or you can use the seat preview in our webshop.

Hearing Enhancement

Equipment for hearing enhancement is available at the opera house. Receivers and headsets can be collected at the info point (Infostand) free of charge before the performance (their number is limited).

Please note that the hearing amplification system in the Opera House is unfortunately not in operation at the moment due to renovation work!

Sign Language

Some events are translated by sign language interpreters. These events are marked with a pictogram in our web and print media.

Audio Description

A number of events are furnished with an audio description, so that blind and visually impaired visitors can enjoy the performance with no barriers.
